Freezin’ For A Reason
On January 21st, 2012 I will take part in the 3rd Annual Polar Plunge to benefit Special Olympics Florida. Special Olympics does not charge it’s athletes or their families. They receive no government funding. And for 43 years they have improved the lives of intellectually challenged individuals all around the world. They have done this with countless volunteers and donations from civic groups, businesses, and people like you and me. I am currently trying to raise money to benefit Special Olympics in my home state of Florida and will join hundreds of other “Plungers” to jump in the “chilly” waters of Aquatica’s wave pool and raise awareness for this great cause.
I’m asking for donations no matter how large or small. Every little bit could help change the life of an individual that will benefit from the increased self esteem, better health, and the sense of belonging that the Special Olympics provides. You can donate by clicking the Donate button in the First Giving widget to the right of this post or you can get to my donation by clicking on this link: My Polar Plunge page. Donations are tax-deductible and you’ll receive a receipt after your donation is confirmed. If you know me personally and would prefer to donate by cash or check that’s OK too. Just get a hold of me on Facebook, Twitter, Google+, see me at work, call my cell phone, etc. I can give you a receipt for your records and all money will be given to Special Olympics Florida on the day of the event.
Now, I know a lot of you are thinking, “A polar plunge in Florida? Really?” Yes, really. I know it doesn’t quite compare to doing it in Maine (which I’ve done) or Wisconsin, but Aquatica is going to chill their pool to 60 degrees, which in Florida, is FREAKIN’ COLD! And just think, after it’s over I’m sure my sister and girlfriend will post all kinds of hilarious pictures of me FREEZIN’ FOR A REASON!!!
P.S. I understand that times are tough for a lot of people these days, so if you can’t donate you can still help me by sharing this with everyone you know.

Saving Money Quickly
I wish I could tell you that there’s a simple way to save $1000 in one month, but there’s not. Everyone’s financial situation is different and what works for some people just isn’t possible for others. Another factor involved is why exactly you need to save money that quickly and what you’re willing to sacrifice to do it. But that also doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t share my tips on how Sara & I have managed to save just over $1000 in one month. Read more…

43 Things I Want to do in 2012 – The Complete List
It’s funny how life seems to fly by. In forty-three short days it will be January 1, 2012. Looking back at this year I realized that I set a lot of resolutions that were never completed. Stress, financial problems, corporate BS, procrastination… These can all be used as an excuse as to why I didn’t accomplish what I wanted, but ultimately, that’s what they are. Excuses. I am responsible for me and it is up to me to complete my goals. So I decided to take a nod from the website 43 Things and come up with a list of 43 things that I want to accomplish next year. Quality Time
“Time you enjoyed wasting is not wasted time.” ~Marthe Troly-Curtin
On Wednesday, I’ll be making my 19th trip to a Seaworld Parks and Entertainment park since April of 2010. Living in Central Florida allows my family to experience one of the United States’ most visited vacation destinations any time we want to. As a result we spend an unusually large amount of time at theme parks. And while some people would view this as both a waste of time and money, I see things differently. It’s quality time. Time spent with my family, time spent relaxing, time spent getting away from the stresses of everyday life… How could that be a waste of time? Read more…

Baby Steps
The best advice I can offer to anyone who just became or wants to become sober is to take “baby steps”. Set small goals that you can reach and by the time you add them all up you’ll have accomplished great things. I think I was a rare case when I quit drinking. After 11 years of non-stop drinking I woke up one morning, cracked a beer, looked at the skeleton in the mirror, and then poured the beer down the sink. I did the same with the rest of the alcohol in the house. I haven’t drank since. I hadn’t planned on becoming sober and had no plan how to maintain sobriety either. I just did it, and it hit me about an hour later. I wanted a beer. Read more…
